Frequently Asked Questions

What is Spotle Movies?

Spotle Movies is a free Wordle style movie guessing game. Each day a mystery film is chosen and players have 10 guesses to identify it using clues about its director, cast, release year, box office, score, age rating, and genres. It's one of Flatwhite Studios many daily games.

When does the mystery film reset every day?

Each day at midnight EST.

What movies can appear in the game?

Puzzles are drawn from a curated library of well-known films spanning multiple decades and genres. The goal is for most players to have a fair shot, so very obscure films are avoided.

Why isn't a movie I'm searching for showing up?

The search library includes over 3,000 movies but isn't exhaustive. Very obscure titles, some older films, and certain regional releases may not be included. If you can't find a title, try an alternate spelling. If you think we missed a great movie, submit feedback!

Can I play previous puzzles?

Head to Rewatch to play previous films from the past six days.

How does the yellow color work for cast?

Yellow on a cast avatar means that actor appears in the mystery film, but in a different role type. For example, they're a lead in your guess but a supporting player in the answer, or vice versa. Green means same actor, same role type.

What are the thresholds for a "close" match?

Year: within 5 years. Box Office: within $100 million worldwide gross. Score: within 0.5 points on the TMDB rating scale.
